This scholarship is given in memory by the family and friends of James B. Collins who passed away in the line of duty. A scholarship will be awarded to a deserving student enrolled in the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) Program.
To qualify as a recipient for the James B. Collins “BLET” Endowed Scholarship, an applicant must meet the following criteria:

Applicant must submit a BLET scholarship application during enrollment.

Applicant must apply for the scholarship at time of enrollment.

Applicant must maintain a minimum 2.5 grade point average.

Applicant must be a citizen of the United States.

Applicant must be atleast 20 years of age at the time of registration.

Applicant must be sponsored or employed by a public law enforcement agency prior to enrollment and maintain that sponsorship or employment throughout the course.
Applicant must provide to the BLET School Director, a Letter of Intent to sponsor the applicant from the sponsoring agency. The letter must include a statement verifying that a criminal background check on the applicant has been conducted and that no disqualifying offenses were discovered. The letter should also indicate that the applicant is of sufficient moral character to attend the Basic Law Enforcement Training Academy.
No applicant will be admitted to the Academy that does not meet the minimum standards for employment as established by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and/or the N.C. Sheriff’s Education and Training Standards Commission.
