Disability Services works collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and College administrators to identify and implement appropriate accommodations and support access to the College’s academic programs, services, facilities, and activities.

• Bladen Community College Disability Services is committed to ensuring qualified students with disabilities have equal access to the College’s programs, services, activities, and educational opportunities.
• Disability Services shall work individually with qualified students with disabilities through an interactive process to determine and coordinate appropriate and reasonable accommodations, academic adjustments, reasonable modifications, and auxiliary aids and services based on the student’s disability-related needs.
• Disability Services shall collaborate with students, administrators, faculty, staff, and other appropriate College personnel to facilitate the timely and effective implementation of approved accommodations and to promote an accessible and inclusive educational environment.
• Disability Services shall operate in accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended, Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, as amended, and other applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and College policies governing access and nondiscrimination on the basis of disability.
• Disability Services shall function as an integral part of the Student Services Division and the College community, recognizing students with disabilities as individuals with diverse needs, interests, abilities, and goals and supporting their opportunity to participate fully and equitably in the College’s educational programs and activities.

Disability Services works with qualified students with disabilities who may require reasonable accommodations, academic adjustments, reasonable modifications, auxiliary aids, or other disability-related services to have equal access to College programs and activities. Disabilities may include, but are not limited to, physical, medical, psychological, learning, sensory, neurological, developmental, and other conditions that meet the applicable legal definition of disability.

• Students who believe they may need disability-related accommodations are encouraged to contact Disability Services as early as possible.
• Students may request accommodations at any time; however, accommodations are generally not retroactive. The accommodation process may involve submitting documentation, meeting with Disability Services, discussing disability-related barriers and needs, and determining appropriate accommodations through an individualized interactive process.
• You do not need to wait until you have an upcoming test or assignment to contact us.
• Complete and submit a Student Accommodation Application and have required documentation to support your request.

• If you received support through an IEP or Section 504 Plan in high school, those services and accommodations do not automatically transfer to Bladen Community College.In college, students are responsible for self-disclosing their disability and requesting accommodations if they need them. Disclosure is voluntary; however, Disability Services cannot determine eligibility or provide accommodations unless a student identifies themselves and requests services.Your high school records and previous accommodations can be helpful when determining appropriate support, but Disability Services will work with you individually to determine accommodations based on your current disability-related needs.We encourage students to contact Disability Services as early as possible to begin the process.
