The Culinary course introduces the fundamental principles and practices essential for exploring a career in culinary arts and the foodservice industry. Emphasis is placed on developing foundational knowledge and skills in key areas.
Food Preparation and Cooking Techniques: Students will learn and practice basic cooking methods such as moist heat, dry heat, and combination cooking. These techniques involve preparing and cooking a wide range of ingredients. Core topics include food safety and sanitation, knife skills, cooking methods, understanding ingredients, menu planning, and basic nutrition. Students will also become familiar with kitchen equipment, accurate measuring, and may explore food costing and presentation.
The learning process combines theoretical instruction—through lectures and discussions—with hands-on laboratory activities, demonstrations, and real-time practice. Food tasting is an integral part of the curriculum, allowing students to develop their palate and critically evaluate dishes.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will possess core knowledge and practical skills in essential culinary areas, preparing them for entry-level positions in the foodservice industry or to continue their studies in an advanced culinary arts program.
Students in the Culinary Arts Program will also benefit from internship opportunities with local restaurants and hospitality partners, as well as participation in campus and county events. This real-world experience enhances their resume and gives them a strong head start in a competitive field.

ServSafe provides training on various aspects of food safety, including foodborne illness prevention, proper food handling techniques, and maintaining a clean and sanitary environment. The ServSafe Manager certification verifies that a manager has the knowledge to protect the public from foodborne illness and is accredited by ANSI and the Conference for Food Protection.
A culinary fundamentals certification equips individuals with basic entry-level skills for working in the food service industry. It focuses on foundational cooking techniques, food safety, sanitation, and kitchen operations. Graduates can pursue roles like prep cook, line cook, or catering assistant in various commercial kitchens.
