Our Student Success Story!

This Is My Story!
My name is Jazmin Salgado-Baza, and I am proud to be a first-generation college graduate. Growing up in my small hometown, I always dreamed of making a difference in the lives of young children, just like the amazing teachers who inspired me during my early school years. Education became my passion, and I was determined to turn that passion into a career.
I began my journey at Bladen Community College, where I pursued an associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education. Being the first in my family to attend college wasn’t easy, but I stayed focused on my goals, working hard and learning everything I could about child development and early learning. My time at Bladen not only gave me a strong foundation in education but also taught me the value of perseverance. While at Bladen I gained hands-on experience and built my confidence as an educator. I was fortunate to have incredible professors and mentors who supported me every step of the way, pushing me to grow and refine my teaching skills.
After graduating, I transferred to the University of North Carolina at Pembroke and completed my Bachelor of Science in Birth to Kindergarten Education.
When I graduated, I knew exactly where I wanted to be—back in my hometown. I was overjoyed to be hired as a teacher at the very school I attended as a child. Walking into those familiar hallways as a teacher felt like a dream come true. Now, I have the privilege of giving back to the community that shaped me and inspiring the next generation of students.
My journey hasn’t always been easy, but it has been deeply rewarding. I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had, and I’m excited to continue making a difference in the lives of the children in my hometown. Every day, I strive to be the kind of teacher who helps her students dream big—just like I did.
