The Nursing programs at Bladen Community College provides students with the knowledge, skills, and strategies to integrate safety and quality into nursing care to practice in a dynamic environment while meeting the holistic needs of individuals which impacts health, quality of life, and achievement of potential. Course work includes and builds upon the domains of healthcare, nursing practice, and the holistic individual. Content emphasizes the nurse as a member of the interdisciplinary team providing safe, individualized care while employing evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and informatics.
Allied Health courses are structured to teach students theoretical, technical and clinical skills for entry level health care positions. These courses are designed to prepare students to test for a state or industry-recognized credential. Students will gain knowledge consisting of, but not limited to, basic patient care, infection control, communication skills, anatomy and physiology, and medical terminology. These short-term training programs allow students a competitive edge in today’s challenging healthcare industry!

Nurse Aide I
Description:
This course introduces basic nursing skills required to provide personal care for patients, residents, or clients in the healthcare setting. Topics include communications, safety, patient rights, CPR, personal care, vital signs, elimination, and nutrition emergencies. The course includes lecture, lab and clinical learning experiences. Upon satisfactory completion of the course, students are eligible to register to take the NC Nurse Aide I exam. After passing both the written and skills exams the students will be able to request listing on the NC Nurse Aide Registry and be considered a Certified Nurse Aide.

Nurse Aide II
Description:
This course is for a Certified Nursing Assistant to prepare to perform more complex skills for patients or residents regardless of the setting. This course includes class, laboratory, and clinical learning experiences. Upon satisfactory completion of the course and skill/competency evaluation, the graduate is eligible to apply for listing as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. In all employment settings, the listed Nurse Aide II will work under the direction and supervision of licensed personnel.

Nurse Aide I Refresher
Description:
This course is for individuals whose NA I registration has expired or have never been listed on the NA Registry after successful completion of courses equivalent to NA I training or military health care training. Upon satisfactory completion of the course, students are eligible to register to take the NC Nurse Aide I exam. After passing both the written and skills exams the students will be able to request listing on the NC Nurse Aide Registry and be considered a Certified Nurse Aide.
Course Requirements:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent, NA I registration has expired or have never been listed on the NA Registry after successful completion of courses equivalent to NA I training or military health care training.
- Required to take the NA I course instead of Refresher if over 5 years since training or expired listing.

Phlebotomy Technician
Description:
This course prepares the student to draw blood specimens from patients for the purpose of testing and analyzing blood. Duties includes maintenance of equipment used in obtaining blood specimen: use of communication skills when working with patients; selection of venipuncture sites; care of blood specimens, entry of the testing process into the computer, and clerical duties associated with record keeping of blood tests.

Description:

Description:

Healthcare Billing & Coding
Description:
- (Part I): First part of a two-part course that prepares the students to become Medical Coders. Medical Coders review medical records to determine diagnostic and procedural information that is then put into numerical codes. Insurance companies and third-party payers to determine reimbursement use of these codes. Topics covered will be medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, medical records, medical ethics and an overview of ICD-10-CM coding.
- (Part II): Second part of a two-part online course that prepares the students to become Medical Coders. This course will provide instruction in ICD-10-CM, CPT and using HCPCS. Using the information learned in this course will prepare students in everyday job duties of medical coding professionals. After successful completion of parts I and II the student will be eligible to test with a credentialing agency such as, American Academy of Professional Coders, to become a Certified Professional Coder.

Medication Administration Aide
Description:
This course is a great way for students to learn how to safely administer medications to patients in a skilled nursing facility. The student must be currently listed on the NC Nurse Aide Registry to be eligible to test for the NC Medication Aide exam. Upon satisfactory completion of the course, students will register to take the Medication Administration Aide certification exam.
