The Associate in General Education curriculum aims to enrich students academically while fostering personal growth and development. Coursework spans humanities and fine arts, social and behavioral sciences, natural sciences, mathematics, and English composition.

The program helps students build competencies in reading, writing, oral communication, basic math, and introductory computer skills, providing a strong foundation for lifelong learning. Graduates are well-prepared for career advancement in their fields and gain qualifications for a diverse range of employment opportunities.

The Associate in General Education (AGE)-Nursing program provides a pathway for students aiming to pursue an Associate in Nursing and ultimately a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). This program aligns with the Uniform Articulation Agreement, facilitating transfer from North Carolina Community College nursing programs to BSN programs in the UNC system, as approved in 2015.

To earn the AGE-Nursing degree, students must complete at least 60 semester hours. Graduates with an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in Nursing, a GPA of 2.0 or higher, a grade of C or better in AGE-Nursing courses, and a current North Carolina RN license will meet UNC’s general education and nursing entry requirements. However, admission to specific BSN programs remains competitive and is not guaranteed.
