Graduates of the Early Childhood Education programs are prepared for careers in various settings, such as child development centers, preschools, Head Start programs, recreational centers, and school-age programs. This program equips you to work directly with young children, supporting their development and learning.

 

The Licensure track is designed for students who plan to pursue teacher licensure and potentially continue their education at a four-year institution in Birth to Kindergarten education. The Non-Licensure track is suited for those who want to work in early childhood settings without pursuing licensure.

 

An Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree typically takes about two years to complete, while a diploma can be earned in a year to a year and a half. Certificate options, which can be embedded within the other programs, may take one to two semesters to complete.

 

The Early Childhood Education A.A.S. program is primarily career-focused and not intended for direct transfer to a four-year college. However, the Licensure track may offer options for students who wish to pursue a degree in Birth to Kindergarten education at a four-year institution.

 

Coursework covers essential topics such as child development, physical and nutritional needs of children, child care and guidance strategies, and communication with families. These classes focus on fostering the cognitive, language, physical, social-emotional, and creative growth of young children.

 

To qualify for admission, applicants must have a high school diploma or its equivalent.

 

Yes! Graduates of this program are well-prepared for roles such as Pre-K teachers in childcare facilities, teacher assistants in public schools, or administrators in early childhood education centers.
