Our Student Success Story!
This Is My Story!
For Lindsie Shaver, the journey to achieving her dream of becoming a cosmetologist is a story of perseverance, determination, and the power of never giving up.
Lindsie first enrolled in the Cosmetology High School program at Bladen Community College in 2004. However, life had other plans, and she had to leave the program to welcome her son into the world. Though her dream was put on hold, Lindsie made a promise to herself that she would return when her son turned 18.
In August 2023, nearly two decades later, Lindsie fulfilled that promise and re-enrolled in the program, ready to pick up where she left off. “When I say it has been challenging, it’s an understatement,” Lindsie reflects. Balancing life as an adult learner with personal responsibilities and the demands of the program was no small feat. Yet, she faced every obstacle with resilience and determination.
A year later, Lindsie was able to complete her degree. The pride she felt was immeasurable. “The pride I feel for this accomplishment is so great, and I am so thankful,” she shares. “I got to make my dreams come true.”
Lindsie’s story is a testament to the belief that it’s never too late to pursue your dreams. Her journey inspires not only her classmates and instructors but also anyone who has ever felt that their goals are out of reach. At Bladen Community College, we celebrate Lindsie’s unwavering spirit and congratulate her on this incredible milestone.
Her success reminds us all: dreams deferred are not dreams denied. Congratulations, Lindsie!
