Basic Law Enforcement Training
Bladen Community College’s Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) certificate prepares students for entry-level careers in law enforcement throughout North Carolina. This state-accredited program meets all requirements of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards Commission, ensuring graduates are fully prepared to serve as certified officers.
The program consists of approximately 868 instructional hours in one comprehensive course (LET110), recognized as 37 semester credit hours and full-time enrollment. Training covers criminal, juvenile, civil, and traffic law, patrol methods, investigations, custody procedures, courtroom processes, and emergency response. Students also develop critical skills in ethics, professionalism, and community relations, ensuring they are not only knowledgeable but also trusted public servants.
Graduates who complete the program are eligible to sit for the state certification exam and may participate in a formal BLET graduation ceremony. Admission requires a high school diploma or equivalent and submission of the program application packet. Financial aid and VA benefits are available, making the program accessible to a wide range of students.
